Pompejanum
© Bernhard Dennerle/PixelioInspired by the excavations in Pompeii, King Ludwig I. of Bavaria had this copy of a Roman town house built between 1840 and 1848, based on plans by court architect Friedrich von Gärtner. The wall paintings and mosaic floors of the colorful rooms were modeled on Roman prototypes. Since 1994, they have served as the backdrop for showcasing original Roman works of art from the State Antiques Collection.
